šŸ‘œ Crescent Belt Bag — PDF Sewing Pattern

11 Ɨ 7 in / 28 Ɨ 18 cm Ā· Two zip pockets Ā· Adjustable strap Ā· A4 and US Letter Ā· Step-by-step video tutorial included

Two zips and a curved seam. That is the whole bag, and it is also the exact point where written instructions stop being enough.

Which is why this pattern comes with a video. You can read "ease the zip around the curve, clipping as you go" ten times and still not know what your hands are supposed to do. You watch someone do it once and you know. The PDF is there to follow at the machine; the video is there for the two minutes where you are not sure.

That is the honest reason this is an easy pattern rather than an intermediate one. The bag is not simple — it has two zips, a curved top seam and four pieces of hardware. It is easy because you can watch it being made. ✨

šŸ“ Finished Size

28 Ɨ 18 cm — about 11 Ɨ 7 inches — wide by high.

Big enough for a phone, a card holder and keys. Small enough to wear across the body without noticing it.

🧵 Fabric — Two Ways to Make It

The quick way: one firm fabric. Duck canvas, cotton canvas, corduroy or a heavy cotton. The bag gets its shape from the fabric itself, and it comes together in an afternoon.

The other way: patchwork. Piece your scraps into a panel, quilt it, and cut the bag pieces from that — which is what the bag in the photographs is made of. It takes longer, the quilting does the job the canvas would have done, and no two bags come out the same. If you have a box of pieces too small for anything and too good to throw out, this is what they are for.

Fabric quantities:

  • Main fabric: 100 Ɨ 60 cm
  • Lining fabric: 80 Ɨ 60 cm — cotton poplin or a thin lining cotton

Avoid velvet and faux leather for a first attempt: velvet shifts under the presser foot and faux leather cannot be pinned, only clipped.

šŸ›ļø You'll Also Need

  • Fusible interfacing
  • Outer zip and inner zip
  • Adjustable strap hardware, D-rings and a lobster clasp
  • Ready-made woven strap
  • Clips or pins, scissors, ruler, tape measure
  • Sewing machine and a printer

šŸ“Š Skill Level: Easy

Straight seams, two zips and a curved top edge. If you have inserted a zip before, nothing here is new — and if you have not, the video shows you exactly how.

Questions makers ask

Do I need a special printer?
Nope! Every pattern is tiled to print on a regular home printer using standard A4 or US Letter paper — just tape the pages together and you're ready to cut. Prefer no taping? Each pattern also includes a large-format A0 file you can send to a copy shop, plus a projector file if you sew with one.
I'm a complete beginner — can I do this?
Absolutely. Our patterns are designed to be beginner-friendly, with clear, illustrated step-by-step instructions that guide you through the whole process. Thousands of first-time makers have sewn our patterns with no prior experience.
How do I get my pattern after I buy?
Instantly. The moment your payment is confirmed, your files are ready to download — and we'll also email you a download link so you always have access. No waiting, no shipping.
Can I sell what I make?
Yes! You're welcome to sell finished items you make from our patterns. We just ask that you don't share, resell, or redistribute the pattern files themselves.
What sizes are included?
Each pattern comes with a full size range and a detailed size chart so you can pick your perfect fit before you start. All sizes are layered in the file, so you only print the size you need.
What if I get stuck?
We're here to help. If anything's unclear or you run into trouble, just reach out by email and we'll get you back on track — usually within 24 hours.
