šŸ‘œ Crescent Crossbody Bag — PDF Sewing Pattern

Curved top zip Ā· Exterior zip pocket Ā· Adjustable strap Ā· Fully lined Ā· A4, A0 copyshop and layered files

There is exactly one difficult thing in this bag, and it is the thing that makes it look bought.

Setting a zip into a curve. Anyone can sew a zip along a straight edge — the fabric behaves, the seam lies flat. Put that same zip along the curved top of a crescent and the outer edge is longer than the inner one, and the whole thing wants to pucker. That pucker is the difference between a bag that looks handmade and a bag that looks made.

The instructions take you through it step by step, with illustrations. And once you can set a zip into a curve, you can do it on anything you sew afterwards. ✨

The rest is straight seams. If you can sew a straight line and install a zip, you can make this bag.

šŸ“¦ What's Included

āœ”ļø Printable PDF sewing pattern (A4) āœ”ļø Large-format A0 copyshop file āœ”ļø Layered PDF — switch off the pieces you are not cutting and print only what you need āœ”ļø Step-by-step illustrated sewing instructions āœ”ļø Fabric requirements āœ”ļø Cutting layout āœ”ļø Hardware and notions list āœ”ļø Sewing tips for a polished finish

šŸ–Øļø Why the A0 File Matters Here

Bag pieces are large curved shapes, and large curved shapes tile badly across A4 pages — you end up taping a dozen sheets together and lining up a curve across four seams, which is exactly where the shape goes wrong.

Take the A0 file to a copy shop and there is nothing to tape. One sheet, one curve, cut and go. On a pattern like this it is worth the few euros it costs.

✨ Features

šŸŒ™ Crescent silhouette with a curved top šŸ”’ Zip closure along the top edge šŸ“± Exterior zip pocket on the front šŸŽšļø Adjustable strap with D-rings and a slider buckle 🧵 Fully lined interior āœ‚ļø Clean, structured construction

🧶 Recommended Fabrics

  • Cotton canvas
  • Quilting cotton
  • Linen
  • Denim
  • Cork fabric (optional)

Plus light to medium weight fusible interfacing. Do not skip it — it is what makes the bag hold its crescent shape instead of collapsing into a soft pouch. A canvas with body and a good interfacing behind it is the difference between a bag that stands and one that flops.

šŸ”© Hardware and Notions

  • Nylon or metal zip for the top closure
  • A second zip for the exterior pocket
  • Two D-rings
  • One slider buckle
  • Matching thread

šŸ“Š Skill Level: Intermediate

Basic sewing machine experience is recommended. The self-test is simple: if you can sew straight lines and install a zipper, you will be able to finish this bag. The curved zip is the one step that asks for patience — take it slowly, clip the seam allowance, and it comes out flat.

šŸ’› Perfect For

An everyday shoulder or crossbody bag Ā· A first "proper" bag after simpler projects Ā· Handmade gifts Ā· Making in several fabrics — canvas for every day, linen for summer, denim for hard wear Ā· Market and craft fair makers
