Quilted Storage Basket & Tote — PDF Sewing Pattern, Two Sizes

A quilted fabric basket that stands up on its own, with a front pocket and two padded handles. Two finished sizes in one download. Use it as a laundry basket, a toy or nursery basket, a shelf organiser, or a market tote.

Why it looks harder than it is There are no boxed corners. A structured fabric basket normally means cutting a square out of each bottom corner and sewing it closed, four times, matching every seam — the step where a basket goes lopsided. This pattern skips it entirely. The whole basket is cut as one cross-shaped piece, quilted flat while it is still easy to handle, then folded up and closed with four short vertical seams. Nothing to match, no corners to square, no gussets.

Two finished sizes Regular: 25 cm high × 32 cm wide × 26 cm deep (9.84" × 12.60" × 10.24") Larger: 32 cm high × 42 cm wide × 34 cm deep (12.60" × 16.54" × 13.39")

What you receive An instant download, delivered the moment your payment clears. No physical item is shipped.

  • A4 and US Letter files for home printing, and A0 for a copy shop at 100% with no taping
  • A 15-step illustrated guide with colour diagrams at every stage
  • Fabric consumption chart for 115 cm and 150 cm fabric widths
  • Cutting layouts for outer fabric, lining and batting
  • A piece inventory with exact cut quantities
  • A beginner tips section
  • 1 cm seam allowance included throughout

Features of the finished basket

  • Quilted outer panels with batting, which is what makes the basket hold its shape
  • Lining enclosed under a topstitched top hem, with no raw edge inside
  • An exterior front pocket
  • Two padded handles, anchored from the inside with a reinforced square stitch

Recommended fabrics Outer: canvas, twill, denim or gabardine — medium-weight wovens with body. Lining: lightweight cotton or poplin. Batting: medium-weight batting, plus a thin layer inside the handles. Quantities for both fabric widths are in the consumption chart.

Printing Select "Actual size" when printing at home. A test square is printed on the first page — measure it before printing the rest.

Skill level Beginner. Straight seams throughout, straight-line quilting, four short corner seams.

Questions makers ask

Do I need a special printer?
Nope! Every pattern is tiled to print on a regular home printer using standard A4 or US Letter paper — just tape the pages together and you're ready to cut. Prefer no taping? Each pattern also includes a large-format A0 file you can send to a copy shop, plus a projector file if you sew with one.
I'm a complete beginner — can I do this?
Absolutely. Our patterns are designed to be beginner-friendly, with clear, illustrated step-by-step instructions that guide you through the whole process. Thousands of first-time makers have sewn our patterns with no prior experience.
How do I get my pattern after I buy?
Instantly. The moment your payment is confirmed, your files are ready to download — and we'll also email you a download link so you always have access. No waiting, no shipping.
Can I sell what I make?
Yes! You're welcome to sell finished items you make from our patterns. We just ask that you don't share, resell, or redistribute the pattern files themselves.
What sizes are included?
Each pattern comes with a full size range and a detailed size chart so you can pick your perfect fit before you start. All sizes are layered in the file, so you only print the size you need.
