Choose a light woven cotton or linen with a soft drape ā the skirt is gathered, and a stiff fabric will stand out instead of falling.
A mid-tone colour shows the dress better than white. The gathers, the bodice seam and the tied bows all read through shadow, and a very pale fabric flattens them ā as well as showing every grass stain by teatime.
