Nine sizes, from six months to ten years.

The same jacket, in every size in between โ€” the one you make in 1Y for your own child, in 4Y when she has grown out of it, and in 8Y for a niece. One pattern, most of a childhood.

The jacket itself is the kind that gets photographed: a wide rounded Peter Pan collar lying flat on the shoulders, sleeves gathered full at the shoulder and again at the wrist, two rounded patch pockets and a row of small pearl buttons โ€” all in soft quilted cotton that holds its shape.

  • ๐ŸŽˆ Puff sleeves, gathered at the shoulder and at the wrist

๐Ÿงถ Choosing Your Fabric โ€” Read This Before You Buy It

This is the advice that makes the difference between a lovely jacket and a disappointing one, and it comes from the size range itself.

A plain or tone-on-tone quilted cotton shows the jacket off best. Everything that makes this design charming is a shape โ€” the curve of the collar, the gathers at the sleeve heads, the round pockets, the buttons. A busy print covers all of it, and you lose the very things you spent the time sewing.

And watch your print scale against your size. A 6M jacket is tiny: a large print gives you one or two motifs per panel, which reads as random blobs rather than as a pattern. A print that looks beautiful in 9โ€“10Y can look accidental in 6M.

If you want a print, choose a small ditsy โ€” it works across the whole size range. If you want something bolder, save it for the larger sizes.

โš™๏ธ How It Works

  1. ๐Ÿ›’ Buy the pattern and download the files
  2. ๐Ÿ“ Choose your size from the chart
  3. ๐Ÿ–จ๏ธ Print at home in A4 or US Letter, or take the A0 to a copy shop โ€” displaying only your size in the layered PDF
  4. โœ‚๏ธ Cut, remembering the 1 cm seam allowance is already included
  5. ๐Ÿชก Sew, following the illustrated guide
  6. ๐Ÿ‘ง Done

๐Ÿ“Š Skill Level โ€” Intermediate

Nothing here is advanced, but two things ask for care.

Setting a gathered sleeve head into an armhole means easing fullness into a smaller opening evenly, so it puffs rather than pleats. And doing it in quilted fabric adds bulk, which is what makes it fiddly rather than difficult.

The collar is the other one: sewing a smooth curve and turning it out cleanly is what makes a Peter Pan collar look right, and it shows immediately if it is rushed.

If you have set a sleeve before, you are ready for this. If you have not, it is a good jacket to learn on โ€” the pieces are small, so a mistake costs very little fabric.

๐Ÿ’ฐ Making These to Sell

You may sell the jackets you make from this pattern in small quantities โ€” at markets, at fairs, or to people who ask. Please do not resell, share or redistribute the pattern files themselves.

Can I sell what I make?

What sizes are included?
Each pattern comes with a full size range and a detailed size chart so you can pick your perfect fit before you start. All sizes are layered in the file, so you only print the size you need.
