🎃 Pumpkin Head Doll & Dress — PDF Sewing Pattern

Approx. 18 in / 46 cm tall · Doll and dress patterns included · 16-page illustrated instructions · A4, US Letter, A0 and 24 × 36 copyshop files

Most Halloween sewing patterns are cute. This one is not, quite.

The face is a proper carved jack-o'-lantern — two hard triangular eyes, a separate triangular nose, a wide jagged grin, all cut from black cloth and stitched onto the head. No rosy cheeks, no smile, nothing softened. And it sits on a long-limbed rag body that flops the way a rag doll should. The result has atmosphere, which is the one thing a free pumpkin softie never has, and the reason this one gets kept and brought out every October rather than made once and forgotten. 🖤

🖤 The Dress Is Included

Not an afterthought — a full second pattern:

  • Black small polka-dot fabric
  • Fitted bodice with a back opening
  • Full gathered skirt
  • Long sleeves
  • White lace at the neckline
  • Lace-trimmed cuffs
  • White lace along the skirt hem
  • A small orange bow at the neck
  • Optional decorative cameo

She works dressed or undressed, and the dress comes off — so the doll can be made plain for a child to play with and dressed for the shelf.

🎃 Doll Details

  • Approximately 18 in / 46 cm tall
  • Six-panel stuffed pumpkin head
  • Curved black fabric stem
  • Orange cloth body
  • Long stuffed arms and legs
  • Face pieces cut from black fabric and appliquéd onto the head — no safety eyes, no plastic parts

📐 Why the Calibration Squares Matter Here

Print at 100% / Actual Size, and check the calibration square before you assemble the pattern.

This is not boilerplate. The head is six curved panels that all have to meet at a single point at the top — it is the least forgiving shape there is. Print at 97% and the last panel will not close, and you will not find out until the head is nearly finished. The square takes ten seconds and it saves the whole project.

📊 Skill Level: Confident Beginner to Intermediate

The body is straightforward: simple shapes, stuffed and sewn. The two parts that ask for care are the six curved head panels, which need an accurate seam allowance to meet cleanly, and the dress — which is a miniature garment with set-in sleeves, a gathered skirt and a back opening, and is genuinely the harder half of this project.

If you have made a soft toy before and sewn a small garment before, you have what you need.

📥 Instant Download

This is a digital PDF sewing pattern. Nothing physical will be shipped. Your files are available immediately after purchase.

📌 Please Note

Print at 100% or Actual Size — never Fit to Page — and check the calibration square first.

If this doll is for a young child, leave off the optional cameo, and sew every appliquéd face piece down securely all the way round.

Colours may look slightly different from one screen to another. This listing is for the pattern only, not a finished doll.

Questions makers ask

Do I need a special printer?
Nope! Every pattern is tiled to print on a regular home printer using standard A4 or US Letter paper — just tape the pages together and you're ready to cut. Prefer no taping? Each pattern also includes a large-format A0 file you can send to a copy shop, plus a projector file if you sew with one.
