Modern Plaid Quilt — PDF Pattern, 60" × 60" Throw
A big-block plaid throw that looks woven. Finished size 60" × 60" (1.52 m × 1.52 m), built from 14" blocks and straight strips.
Why it looks harder than it is A plaid quilt normally means matching points — long strips that have to line up across the whole quilt, where one seam a hair off shows for two metres. This one does not work that way. The bands are deliberately uneven in width, so nothing has to line up with anything. Every seam is straight, every piece is a rectangle. There are no triangles, no bias edges, no points to match, and no template to trace.
Why quilters pick this pattern
- Large 14" blocks: far less cutting and far less piecing than a traditional plaid quilt
- Straight seams only, from the first cut to the binding
- Fat quarter and scrap friendly — a good way to use a collection you have been saving
- Advanced beginner: if you can sew a straight quarter-inch seam, you can make this
