THE PATCHWORK QUILT JACKET — PDF Sewing Pattern
An oversized quilted jacket with a stand collar, two deep patch pockets and binding on every edge. No zip, no buttons — two small hooks hold the front closed, and that's it.
HOW IT'S MADE
You piece your patchwork first, quilt it, and cut the jacket from it. That order matters: it means every scrap you own is a candidate, and no piece has to be a particular size or land in a particular place.
The blocks are simple squares. Not triangles, not stars — squares, and that's deliberate. When you cut a garment piece out of patchwork, you slice through blocks. A square cut in half still reads as a square. A triangle point cut in half reads as a mistake.
The quilting runs along the patchwork seams, so the two grids line up and you never have to mark a quilting design.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
Boxy and oversized, with a dropped shoulder that goes over a jumper without pulling. Stand collar. Two patch pockets with rounded lower corners. Binding around the front edges, the collar, the hem, the cuffs and every pocket.
FABRIC
Quilting cottons, scraps, fat quarters, a layer cake, or a print you love cut into squares. Plus batting, a lining, and enough of one fabric to make all the binding.
