🧺 Peg Bag Dress — PDF Sewing Pattern
43 × 41 cm / 17 × 16 in · Hangs on any hanger · Beginner friendly · Illustrated instructions with photographs
Look at the peg bag you have now.
It is a plastic-lined sack in a colour nobody chose, hanging on the line, and it has been there for years. Peg bags are one of those objects that everybody owns and nobody has ever looked at on purpose.
This one is a little dress. It hangs on the washing line with the shoulders out and the skirt swinging, and it is the reason laundry day has one nice thing in it. That is the whole product, and it is why these are given as gifts — nobody buys themselves a peg bag, but people will happily be given one. ✨
And it is not only for pegs. Hung on the back of a kitchen door it holds carrier bags — which is a job everyone has and nobody has solved properly. In a nursery it holds socks, small toys and all the things that have nowhere to live.

📏 Finished Size
43 cm × 41 cm — about 17 × 16 inches — high by wide.
Big enough to hold a full bag of pegs. Small enough to hang on a kitchen door without being in the way.

📊 Skill Level: Beginner
Straight seams, a simple shape, and bias binding around the opening. There is no zip, no closure, no fitting and nothing to line up. If this is your first project beyond a cushion cover, it is a good one — small, quick, and finished in one sitting.
🎨 Choosing Your Fabric
Keep it simple: one main fabric, and a plain binding that contrasts with it.
The whole charm of this bag is that it reads as a dress from across the garden — and a large busy print breaks up that silhouette until the shape disappears. A plain fabric, or a small-scale print, lets the dress shape do the work. The contrasting binding then draws the neckline and the wrap, which is the only detail on the piece.
And think about where it lives. A peg bag hangs outdoors in sun and rain. Very pale fabrics get grubby quickly and bright ones fade; a mid-tone cotton — chambray, a soft blue, a sage — takes both far better and still looks good after a summer.
💛 Perfect For
