The jacket you reach for from September to April.
Quilted throughout, fully lined, with a hood, a front zip and two deep patch pockets â and a line of contrast piping running along the front edges, around the hood and around every pocket. That piping is what turns a practical jacket into one people ask about.
Nine sizes, from XXS to 4XL.

đ Sizing
Sizes XXS through 4XL are included. The sizing chart in the pattern gives the measurements for each one.
Measure yourself and check the chart before you cut. A jacket is worn over other clothes, so the fit across the shoulders and the back matters more than usual â and a size chosen from a shop label rather than a tape measure is the most common reason a finished jacket disappoints.
đ¨ď¸ Printing
Open the files in Adobe Acrobat Reader.
For A4 and US Letter, select Actual Size / 100% scale. Do not use "Fit to Page" â it will change the size of every pattern piece.
Print and measure the included 10 Ă 10 cm test square first. If it measures 10 cm, your pattern is the right size and you can print the rest with confidence. This takes two minutes and it is the single best thing you can do before cutting into your fabric.
Pages are trimmed and taped together following the included layout. On desktop, the layers let you display and print only the size or sizes you need.
𧜠Fabric
Outer: cotton, linen, denim, or ready-quilted fabric. Anything with body â this jacket is meant to hold its shape.
Lining: soft cotton, poplin or lightweight viscose. It needs to slide over your sleeves.
Piping: a plain fabric in a contrasting colour, cut on the bias, over piping cord.
Choose according to the warmth and the look you want â the same pattern gives a light spring jacket in cotton and a proper winter one in a quilted fabric.
âď¸ Before You Cut â If You Are Quilting Your Own Fabric
If you buy fabric that is already quilted, skip this. If you are quilting your own layers, read it twice.
Quilting draws fabric in. The stitching pulls the layers together and a panel typically loses three to five percent of its size. So the order matters:
Quilt oversized panels first, then lay your pattern pieces on the quilted fabric and cut.
Cutting your pieces to size and quilting them afterwards will give you a jacket a full size too small â and you will only find out after hours of quilting. Cut generously, quilt, then cut properly.

- 𪥠Sew, following the construction steps â jacket, hood, sleeves, pockets, lining, finishing
- 𧼠Wear it
đ Skill Level â Intermediate
You will insert a zip, build and attach a hood, apply a full lining, and sew piping into curved seams.
The piping is the part worth being honest about. It is not difficult, but it needs an even hand â it is what makes this jacket look bought rather than made, and it is also where a rushed seam shows. Take it slowly on the curves around the pockets and the hood.
You are ready for this if you have made a lined garment before, or sewn a zip into a jacket or a bag. Come back to it later if this would be your first garment â the construction is logical, but there is a lot of it.
