Winter coat · Sizes XS–3XL · Shawl collar, fit and flare · A4, US Letter and A0 · Layered PDF

A cozy, structured winter coat you can sew at home. A dramatic shawl collar, a fitted waist, a flared hem and fabric bow-and-toggle closures: the kind of outerwear you would expect to pay a premium for, made entirely by you.

WHO IT'S FOR Confident beginners and intermediate home sewists. If you have sewn a lined jacket or a fitted dress before, you will feel at home with this project.

WHAT YOU'LL BE MAKING

  • A wide shawl collar for a polished, elevated look
  • Long sleeves finished with tailored cuffs
  • Front and back waist darts for a nipped-in silhouette
  • A gently flared skirt for ease of movement
  • Decorative fabric bow-and-toggle closures down the front
  • Full front facing and back neck facing for a clean, professional finish

SIZING Sizes XS through 3XL, with finished garment measurements for bust, waist, hip, length and sleeve length in both inches and centimeters, so you can pick your size with confidence or make simple adjustments.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Print-at-home pattern in A4 and US Letter, tiled with registration marks
  • Print-shop-ready A0 file, no taping required
  • Layered PDF: print only the size you need
  • Step-by-step illustrated sewing guide, from darts to collar to final topstitching
  • A test square on the first page to confirm scale before printing
  • Fabric and notions guidance, plus a suggested fabric layout

GOOD TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY This coat has no pockets. The three front closures are fabric bows with a small metal clasp at the centre of each.

RECOMMENDED FABRICS Heavyweight wovens work best: wool, wool blend, tweed, jacquard or heavy polyester suiting. A lighter, drapier fabric will not hold the structured silhouette.

PERFECT FOR

  • A fall and winter wardrobe staple
  • A thoughtful handmade gift
  • A signature piece for a small-batch or made-to-order sewing business

WHY SEW IT Ready-to-wear coats in this style are expensive and rarely fit off the rack. Sewing it yourself means the fit you want, the fabric and color you want, and a coat you will still wear in five years.

PLEASE NOTE This is a digital PDF sewing pattern only. No physical coat, fabric or supplies will be shipped. Colors may look slightly different depending on your screen.

Questions makers ask

Do I need a special printer?
Nope! Every pattern is tiled to print on a regular home printer using standard A4 or US Letter paper — just tape the pages together and you're ready to cut. Prefer no taping? Each pattern also includes a large-format A0 file you can send to a copy shop, plus a projector file if you sew with one.
I'm a complete beginner — can I do this?
Absolutely. Our patterns are designed to be beginner-friendly, with clear, illustrated step-by-step instructions that guide you through the whole process. Thousands of first-time makers have sewn our patterns with no prior experience.
How do I get my pattern after I buy?
Instantly. The moment your payment is confirmed, your files are ready to download — and we'll also email you a download link so you always have access. No waiting, no shipping.
Can I sell what I make?
Yes! You're welcome to sell finished items you make from our patterns. We just ask that you don't share, resell, or redistribute the pattern files themselves.
What sizes are included?
Each pattern comes with a full size range and a detailed size chart so you can pick your perfect fit before you start. All sizes are layered in the file, so you only print the size you need.
What if I get stuck?
We're here to help. If anything's unclear or you run into trouble, just reach out by email and we'll get you back on track — usually within 24 hours.
