⛄ Big enough to be the thing people see first.

At 18½ inches across — nearly 25 inches with its beaded hanger — this is a statement piece, not a small ornament. Two layers of quilted, padded star points, hand-embroidered sprigs and snowflakes across them, and a softly stuffed snowman in the middle with a bead-eyed face, a carrot nose and a fringed scarf.

And it stays up all winter. It is a snowman, not a Christmas tree: it goes on the door in November and comes down when the weather does. That is three months of display for one project, which is worth knowing before you decide whether it is worth the hours.

🧵 What This Pattern Does Not Require

Worth putting first, because it is usually the thing standing between someone and a project like this:

  • No paper piecing
  • No Y-seams
  • No curved piecing
  • No zippers
  • No embroidery machine

What it does use: straightforward quilting, turned-edge appliqué, simple hand embroidery, stuffing, and layered assembly. All of it is explained.

📐 Finished Size

The star 18½" × 18½" (47 × 47 cm)
Including the hanger approximately 24½" (62 cm)

🧶 What's Included

  • 34 illustrated steps, from first cut to finished hanging
  • 11 full-size printable templates
  • ✔ Formatted for US Letter and A4, printed at 100%
  • Six colourway inspirations — see below
  • ✔ Instant digital download

🎨 Six Colourways, One Pattern

The pattern includes six suggested colour schemes, so the same templates give you a completely different piece each time:

Nordic Sage · Traditional Christmas · Winter Blue · Farmhouse Neutral · Vintage Cottage · Modern Gray

That matters more than it sounds. It means this is not a pattern you use once — it is one you come back to when someone asks you to make one for them, in their colours.

🪡 What You'll Be Doing

  • 🧵 Simple quilting on each star point
  • ✂️ Turned-edge appliqué for the snowman and his hat and scarf
  • 🪡 Hand embroidery — sprigs and snowflakes, in simple stitches
  • 🧸 Stuffing, so every layer is softly padded
  • 📐 Layered assembly, building the two star layers up

📊 Skill Level — Advanced Beginner

There is a lot of it, but none of it is hard.

Every technique here is one you can learn in an afternoon, and the pattern walks through all of them across 34 illustrated steps. What the project asks for is time and a bit of patience with the hand embroidery — not skill you do not have yet.

If you have quilted anything before, even a placemat, you have what you need.

⏳ Be Honest With Yourself About Time

This is a substantial make: two padded star layers, eleven pattern pieces, hand embroidery on several points, and a stuffed appliqué snowman.

It is a project to enjoy over a few evenings rather than finish in an afternoon. If you are making it for this winter, start it early — and if you are making them to sell, plan your run accordingly.

🎀 A Note on the Beads and the Greenery

The wooden beads, the cord, the linen bow, the pine sprigs and the pine cone in the photographs are shop-bought additions, not part of the sewing pattern. They are easy to find in any craft shop and they are how we styled it — but the hanging is complete without them, and nothing in the pattern depends on them.

💰 Making These to Sell

You may sell the hangings you make from this pattern in small quantities — at markets, at craft fairs, or to people who ask. Please do not resell, share or redistribute the pattern file itself.

🏡 Perfect For

Front door and porch decoration · winter and Christmas home decor · farmhouse and Nordic interiors · a handmade gift that gets used every year · craft fair and market stock

📦 Please Note

  • This is a digital PDF sewing pattern, not a finished hanging. Nothing will be shipped to you.
  • Instant download, available immediately after purchase.
  • Colours may look different from one screen to another, and your fabric choices will change the piece completely.
